Project awarded the 2011 ENR Award of Merit in Transportation. Resident Engineering for the reconstruction of the Atlantic Avenue Viaduct, an 8,100-foot-long elevated steel structure consisting of 199 spans, approximately 26-feet wide and 40-feet long. Replaced longitudinal girders cap beams, repaired columns and foundations, installed new track structure. Instead of bolted girder splices, the team introduced in-span hinges to enhance constructibility and geometry control. Complete replacement of bridge deck, structural steel, track, ties, and third rail was completed in full-weekend outages utilizing modular, precast deck units.
